We checked our mail this morning and were happy to see a new Sherpas menu dropped in the box. However, when Shanghaiist flopped down on the couch and ripped open the plastic out fell a ... K.K. Rabbit menu?
The Sherpas site is still up and, as far as we know, running fine. This rules out the suspicion they'd been bought out by someone with less money. Unless a reader knows better? So we guess it's just a case of healthy competition. That is until you open the similar looking menu and see just how cheeky these guys are.
So have a look at the menu above and give it a go. One is Sherpas and one is K.K. Rabbit. Is it just us or is someone ripping off making a homage to the other?

Week Around the Ists

Mealbay is another Sherpas clone. However, there is no restaurant overlap between the three. You should view this as a good thing as it broadens the choices available to you.
Sure. The post is about the menu design which speaks for itself. As for more services to more restaurants, of course that's good.
So, have you tried K.K.? What's the service like? And if not Moneyinabox, anyone else?
I'd bet the visual similarities are as related to quick and dirty computer graphic design, i.e. lists, tables, fonts, headers, etc., as to any malevolent intent. When folks use design templates provided by ubiquitous programs like Windows this is what can happen. I agree with MIAB that the non congruent restaurants offered is the most relevant thing.
There is another new service, Dial a Meal, who just dropped a book in my mailbox.
Hi Les
To say there was no malevolent intent is also to suggest that after using their generic template they were completely unaware that their catalogue was then a near copy of their biggest rival's at time of printing.
How different do we think this is to, say, the Darlie fakes posted a few days back?
A catalog is a catalog is a catalog.... or catalogue for you UK folks. I don't think they were unaware, I just doubt that they cared one way or another. Do you really believe they were trying to trick unsuspecting hungry expats into thinking they were ordering from Sherpa's? Seems a bit convoluted to me, but stranger things do happen all the time. Most of the menus I see start with appetizers and end with beverages, mere coincidence?
Les
The post is suggesting it's "cheeky" and is also tagged with "fun stuff".
Hey, I'm sorry if ripping on KK Rabbit has offended you. Hope you keep commenting on my posts.
Andy :)
oh come off it Les- that's a straight rip off!
I like Mealbay, once you order from them three times, they start giving you two free cans of pop with every order. Also they deliver ice, which I can never find in Family Mart.
Thanks James :)
I might give Mealbay a go.
So who's going to try K.K. Rabbit?
I'm not offended, and hope I haven't offended. It just seems there is a lot of 'invisible hand' thinking on display concerning many subjects on the site.
Hey Les
I'm good. And it's all good. We don't have to agree. That you take time to comment on the site is great.
Now where was I ... working on my 'Never mind the inquiry, Diana was killed by the CIA' story ;)
It wasn't the Illuminati?
The difference is that KK Rabbit's restaurants are generally worse.
JC - It should be obvious to anyone who doesn't have an axe to grind that the list on the top menu is much closer to the edge of the page than the other! Also one says 'APPETIZER' while the other touts 'appetizers.' Completely different animals. As an aside are you on Mealbay's payroll or what? (In the interest of avoiding flame wars, the forgoing was an attempt at humour... (Oh, and I am K.K. Rabbit!! (not really... or am I?)))
I second the Mealbay recommendation. Good service. They deliver me NYC Deli burritos, salsa, and chips on the occasional weekend with free cans of coke.
I certainly am not on Mealbay's payroll, and how very dare you ask.
Although it has to be said that their prices and level of service just can't be beat.
That's MEALBAY: 5158-0168.
Tell them James Creegan sent you, for a free hand shake!
Count yer fingers... just sayin'..
more importantly,
what does the k.k stand for?
K.K. Rabbit does seem like a bit of a random name. I suppose it's a reference that I'm missing ... anyone?
Wow, check out their website though. The most appalling bad site I've used in a long time!
K.K.Rabbit's restaurants are good,i have used their service many times, they provide fast delivery, favorable delivery fee.
