In two related articles in People’s Daily, French officials have been kindly reminded by the Chinese Ambassador to France to keep safeguarding the Chinese embassy in Paris (mentioning the Vienna convention), and avoid causing troubles when the Olympic “flame of harmony” is to reach the French capital:

These comments lie in the wake of French President Sarkozy’s words that he might not rule out a boycott of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. Mr. Sarkozy was one of the first presidents to address the issue of the boycott in such a straightforward way, following the Lhasa riots. Meanwhile, the Dalai Lama will be giving lectures on Buddhism in France during the Olympics.

Here's a little thought about "revenge", the G8 shift all outsourcing to Africa, India, South America and the Middle East.
No one needs China, the west grew up fast and modern without China and can continue well into the future without lead toys, tainted medicine or spitting and peeing tourists.

the amusing thing about the comments from both corners in this section is the fact that I sincerely doubt that any of us have any say in international trade policy, and that this is just a waste of energy.. not trade diplomat would be caught on this blog..

It is actually quite feasible, I check the labels and buy "made in any-place-but-China". Alot of Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Mexico and Indonesia stuff starting to show up in the US (again).
China is bad, smelly, ugly country.
Um, bamboos, other countries and people dont "try" to humiliate china, china does pretty damn well doing that on its own.

i'd like to withdraw that i said above. due to some personal experience, i have some prejudice against French. i know it is wrong to generalize a group of people. also, i am aware that you and me have 2 totally different points of view, i will not argue with you, because time will tell the truth, as it always does.
