It might have been one day earlier than planned but, after they rescued the Dandi Wind gig, Shanghaiist checked out the renewed Windows Tembo last night and we liked what we saw. Having made Live Bar the place that it is, we had every faith that Brad Ferguson would turn this slightly more central location into a great place for live music too and, if last night's show is anything to go by, it is going to quickly establish itself as one of Shanghai's premier gig venues.
The place was pretty packed last night for Dandi Wind's energetic show and the space works perfectly for their kind of performance, creating an intimate and lively atmosphere. Having had a sort of "soft (re)opening" last night, the gig that Shanghaiist is really looking forward to at Tembo is tonight's show from Subs. They are simply one of the best live bands around in China right now and with no cover, support from Mortal Fools, and those nicely priced Windows drinks it should all make a for an unmissable night.
Something else that shouldn't be missed is next week's hosting of PK14 and the Antidote crew. Having Subs and PK14, two of China's best bands, in the space of a week is a great statement of intent and we hope that this is a sign of things to come down at Tembo. Something else that is going to see us down there pretty frequently is their handing of a regular slot to one of our favourite Shanghai bands, Hard Queen — as if you needed any more reasons to get down there.
