Anti-CNN.com, a website set up to protest the Western media’s “distortion” of recent events in Tibet, has been hacked according to The Dark Visitor. There’s a clue in the name as to what anti-CNN.com is all about but, in case you haven’t heard of it, here’s how they define themselves:
This website is estabished to expose the lies and distortions in the western media. The site is maintained by volunteers, who are not associated with any government officials.
We are not against the western media, but against the lies and fabricated stories in the media.
We are not against the western people, but against the prejudice from the western society.
Since its founding a few weeks ago, the website has received a huge number of hits and has been featured in China Daily (under the headline “CNN: What’s wrong with you?”). The reasons for the hacking remain unclear but those behind the website (reportedly university students) have apparently enlisted the help of Sohu to help them track down those responsible.
In the interests of balanced journalism (and fearful of someone starting an anti-Shanghaiist.com), we should point out that there is also an anti-Xinhua.com website, which as far as we know has not yet been hacked.
