The Olympic flame now in San Francisco, IOC mulls cancellation of remaining international leg of torch relay

From AP:

The Olympic torch arrived in San Francisco for its only North American stop amid heavy security Tuesday, one day after its visit to Paris descended into chaos.
From what we see in the video, looks like things are pretty calm so far in San Francisco!

With disruptions in the Olympic torch relay in Athens, Istanbul, London and Paris, and more expected to dog the event everywhere it goes, the IOC is having such a headache it is now mulling the cancellation of the remaining portion of international leg of the relay:

"This is something that obviously has to be discussed by the executive board," IOC President Jacques Rogge told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Rogge said the rule-making board would consider the options on Friday.

Asked whether the continuation of the international relay was certain, he said: "I'm not saying whether it is certain or not. There will be a discussion of the executive board on the torch relay but I attach on that absolutely no speculation whatsoever."

"I'm definitely concerned about what has happened in London and in Paris," Rogge said. "I'm deeply saddened by the fact that such an important symbol has been attacked. We recognize the right for people to protest and express their views but it should be non-violent. We are very sad for all the athletes and the people who expected so much from the run and have been spoiled of their joy."

no. Please don't cancel it. we are expecting to see those antics, clowns, stooges. Our audiences' joy should not be deprived! anybody can lobby IOC?

Shanghai Daily printing captions like:

"It's the heart of the matter ... Jin Jing, a disabled Chinese fencer and torchbearer, closes her eyes and holds tightly to the torch after an assault by a Western man who tried to snatch away her pride and joy. - Thibault Camus"

coupled with pictures that make you want to commit suicide seems designed to foment this sucker even more. Can I go on the record as saying that instead of saying "Western man," the caption should read either nut-job or crackpot? Even though I am a Westerner, I don't want to be lumped together with these people. And then Richard's comment above makes me think that finding even more reasons to hate Westerners is just what a lot of folks out here have been looking for. For these other nut-jobs, this sort of nonsense justifies their latent suspicious and pre-existing hatred of all things foreign. Let the games begin already and fuck all this noise.

Now those homeless people around Union Square can have work for the time being. The Tibet Organizations really pay well.

yeah, a few of them admited they got paid. one even yelled"free japan", not deserve all those money!

Those protestors got paid? Really? By whom? Has that been verified by international media? That's a lot of people to pay...

I'm out of a job at the moment. Where does one sign up?

vladivostok
pls go to freetibet website and sign up. pls tell them you are currently a foreigner living in Shanghai, is able to offer them some help to grab the torch during its Shanghai relay.

btw, could you tell me the result that how much you got paid. i can pay you double for this info if you can provide all evidents. just for curiosity. :-D

Note that the SF route was quiet because the relay route was altered. Nobody knew where the torch was. The site of the ceremony was also altered. The fact that the relay route and the site of the ceremony had to be altered in the first place to avoid protesters should say something.
