Probably the best malatang in the world?

重庆周氏麻辣烫Not far back, Shanghaiist gave out the tip on Sofa Bar and Cafe – the hidden gem in the Xinhua Road community. We got a big surprise when a reader came on the comments section to also tip off the legendary Malatang stand just two doors down. Since the cat is already out of the bag, here are the details.

Chongqing Zhoushi Mala Tang 重庆周氏麻辣烫 (Chongqing Zhou Clan spicy soup) is the best Jerry … the best. It resides just inside Xianghuaqiao Road 香花桥路 next to the Kedi. That’s a short walk from the Dingxi Road / Fahuazhen Road 定西路/法华镇路 junction down from C’s Bar. What’s more, it’s open until 2 a.m.

For those not familiar with this dish, you pick out your vegetables and/or meat from the fridge and then the cook boils them up with the standard stock. Like choose your own soup. They then load it with chili. Did we say that it’s the best? Think we are exaggerating? At around 50 cents (5 jiao) per vegetable bunch and 1 yuan per meat stick you might as well try it. "the best...in the world", hmmm, a pretty broad claim...even gushy. Will have to check it out.

:) I was wondering how to write this up and watching a Seinfeld DVD at the same time.

Name that character anyone?

Ovaltine ... the tin is round, the cup is round, they should call it roundtine. That's gold, Jerry ...Gold!
