I call it 蓝牙 (lanya) - which means 'bluetooth' in Chinese. I really hope they didn't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars getting some marketing firm to draw up that pathetic mascot.

The Beijing Olympic guys are much better (though creating 5 mascots in order to reap as much economic benefit as they can from the games is a bit slimy).

I have read many times before about the disaster that was the 2000 Olympic Mascot. The Atlanta games featured an ugly thing called Izzy. Nobody knew what he was and everyone hated him.

Take the description of this article, for example ( http://espn.go.com/oly/summer00/s/2000/0915/745509.html ):

"The 1996 games in Atlanta featured the ultimate mascot disaster. Atlanta's mascot name was revealed in Barcelona, but its original name -- Whatizit -- confused many people. Organizers had kids vote on a new name, which was reportedly Kirby. But Kirby was trademarked by Nintendo, so the mascot was dubbed "Izzy" (who apparently was part of the Whatizit family). Unlike previous mascots, which were people and animals, Izzy was an ambiguous blue blob."

Ridicule of an "ambiguous blue blob". Now where have I heard that before?

I do so enjoy towelie, but Twong Lu Kim would surely do a better job of keeping out foreigners with his wall, as long as no Goddamn Mongolians come and try to tear it down.

Ha! I swore that the mascot was the bastard child of Towlie and Gumby! Glad I'm not the only one.
