Shanghaiist spotted John Cusack at Bar Rouge on Friday. Ensconced in the bathroom-sized VIP room on the club’s terrace and guarded by a bevy of beefy bodyguards, Cusack was playing with his phone and appeared both tired and bored (who recommended BR anyway?). Doing the rounds of Shanghai nightspots, he was spotted at MAO the night before until the wee hours.
The American actor of High Fidelity fame, is presently in town shooting Shanghai, a period drama with Gong Li set in Shanghai during World War II directed by Mikael Hafstrom. In the film, Cusack plays an American who returns to Japanese-occupied Shanghai in 1941 just months before Pearl Harbor to discover that his friend has been killed. While investigating the murder, he falls for the Gong Li character and uncovers a secret that his own government is hiding.
Someone should recommend a good, old-fashioned pub for the man. Shanghaiist would like to take John for a pint at The Beaver, just a short walk on Yueyang Lu from MAO . So if you have his agent’s contact details, hook us up. For a pint … ahem.
