Give blood and help the earthquake victims

Give blood and help the earthquake victims
We know that many of you have been affected by the tragic aftermath of this week's devastating earthquake in Wenchuan and are looking for ways to help the victims, so here is your chance to immediately get involved. We received word from ShanghaiExpat that the blood mobile will be out today in front of the Shanghai Exhibition Center opposite the Portman Hotel (a.k.a. the Shanghai Center). Those interested in donating blood have been instructed to make an appointment with Shanghai United Family Hospital by calling 5133-1968.

If you would like to donate blood to help the relief effort, but cannot make it today you have a couple of other options at your disposal. You can make an appointment with the Shanghai Blood Center (62758027, Monday to Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, use ext. 1854 at other times) or you could also attend one of the other upcoming blood drives organized by Shanghai United Family Hospital. Information for these events are as follows:

May 24–Thumb Square, 199 Fangdian Rd, Pudong

May 27–Level B1, Hong Kong New World Tower,
300 Huaihai Middle Rd,Puxi

Jun 15–Thumb Square, 199 Fangdian Rd, Pudong

Jun 21–Dulwich College Shanghai, Jinqiao, 200 Lanan Rd, Pudong

For more information about the SUFH blood drives please click here.

The shanghai expat link isn't working at the moment, but here's a link to the post about giving blood to the earthquake victims through shanghai united family:

Thank you, I've updated the link as per your suggestion.

A lot of older locals believe donating blood is risky, health-wise, especially for women. My father-in-law reacted with something between surprise and horror when my wife told him she'd given blood. I hope the Red Cross is able to get enough younger people to realize there's nothing wrong with donating blood as long as you're a healthy person that's not underweight.
