After 2 weeks of unrelenting natural disaster horror stories there are a couple of good shows this weekend to help you release that built up anxiety. Friday the sounds are a bit mellower with Chinese folk singer Hong Qi and jazz saxophonist Adam Diller holding court at Live Bar, where they will be joined by beat masters $.99 Dreams. Yuguo will be playing at Yuyintang.
Saturday things get faster with SMZB, one of the best Chinese punk bands, finally returning to Yuyintang to celebrate the release of their new CD. If you are in less of a moshing mood and in more of a charitable one then head to Melting Pot, where they are holding a charity concert for the earthquake victims. Besides being for a good cause the concert will feature a dozen bands, including the Honeys, Blue Garden and Crazy Mushroom.
Yuyintang and 0093 are also in charitable mode with a benefit show on Sunday featuring many of Shanghai's up'n'coming student bands and local favorites, Banana Monkey. NOIshanghai is also back on Sunday with a performance out at Live bar that is sure to destroy what is left of your already beaten eardrums.
