Eh. Doesn't really matter. With a name like GodHatesFags, you can't really expect them to say anything worth your ire. It's more tragic when you hear of the stupidity of people like Sharon Stone and Whoopi Goldberg saying that the earthquake was karma for actions towards Tibet. Well gee, 1) the area had a significant number of ethnic Tibetans already and 2) so bad karma gets handed out to regular people with little say about their government's policies? Righhhhhhht. Just goes to show to what degree these self-professed big-shots pretend to know about the world. I see the problem as not just the coldheartedness of these idiots, but also the ability to BS so confidently.

The Westboro Baptist Church is not a real church. They're a bunch of lawyers who intentionally say horrible things in hopes of provoking violent reactions from people that they can then sue them for. It's best not to give these people any attention.

The go to the funerals of soldiers and hold up stupid signs that say "Thank God for 9/11", and "God hates fags." I'm dismayed people are advocating hacking the websites of those they disagree with. People should be able to voice their opinions, no matter how stupid or hateful those opinions may be. That's just my opinion, of course.

Here in the USA, this group has inspired several states and local governments to enact laws restricting protests at certain functions. This was because this group in particular began loudly protesting and picketing at the burials of dead soldiers returned from Iraq and Afghanistan. They would shout and wave placards praising god for killing the soldiers. How's that for showing respect to grieving families? Though this group is the more extreme and very vocal end of the christian zealots here in the USA, they are not, by any means, alone in their zealotry.

I had completely forgotten about these fools which was a good thing. They're whacked out of their skulls and that man's children never had a chance at a normal life. Regardless, this is just giving them attention. In fact you will find if you visit their site one of the reasons why they are so pissed off with the world because other Kansan's hated them as much as everyone else and tried to bomb their church afterwhich they were ignored by the police. A pretty dumb thing to put on their website if you ask me. I imagine that Fred should hire a PR firm and then maybe they can do as well as the scientologist have done in spreading hate towards psychiatrists.

I'm with bullitt. These guys are only fueled by hate reactions against them. A hacking attempt will only strengthen their resolve. Show them as anomaly once, but why spend time *repeatedly* giving people something to get upset about? Leave that up to the regular news.

What kind of a human being could look at the images we have all seen and feel happy? They are small, hateful people that only say these things for their personal gain. Which brings me to my reason for posting. Why perpetuate the morbid fascination with these people by broadcasting their message to a wider audience? I am not saying that Shanghaiist, or any other person or blog out there, does not have the right to comment on the Westboro Baptist Church, nor am I saying I think you have anything but contempt for these people. I am just questioning the choice to introduce their message of indiscriminate hate to your readers? What is the value of any meaningful discussion that can come from reproducing their hate speech when compared to the hurt that can be caused by increasing the profile of these extremists?

Normally I usually think with wackos - attention is what they're looking for and we're providing it to them. But I hope the Chinese hackers go ahead and not only shut down their site, but blow up their computers.
