24 City: New Jia Zhangke movie filmed in Chengdu

From France24:

Jia Zhang Ke (贾樟柯) mixes documentary and fiction in his film about three generations of Chinese workers. Watch clips from '24 City', filmed in the town of Chengdu, and an interview with the director.

The film which features actresses Joan Chen and Zhao Tao is Jia's second stab at Cannes' coveted Palme d'Or award. A minute's silence was observed at the film's press conference at the festival.

In a report by AFP:

"I spent more than a year there," said the director, whose film is part-documentary and part-fiction. "What has happened there is extremely painful for us."

The importance for him of being at Cannes, he told AFP in an interview, "was to show the world the reality of Sichuan".

Joan Chen adds:

"The people in this film are the people of that province... We hope this film can help spiritually. We dedicate this film to Sichuan."
We think we'll be looking out for this one.

Considering that Sean Penn is the President of the Festival this year, and that he wants it to be political; it would not be surprising if the movie get the Palme D'or. Or maybe the Israeli movie "Waltz with Bachir"...
