Miracle survivors saved 179 and 196 hours after quake

Left: A man by the name of Ma Yuanjiang was rescued alive by the Shanghai rescue team 179 hours after the quake. Doctors were surprised that this man could survive for so long without a single drop of water. By the next morning Ma was already able to take light food and converse with nurses. He told nurses that he could survive for so long only because he found a companion in another woman trapped with him under the rubble. They kept each other awake by conversing through the night.
Right: A woman over 60 years old, Wang Youqiong, was saved from the rubble 196 hours after the quake. She is now severely dehydrated and under intensive care at the Chengdu Huaxi Hospital. It is currently still unclear what damage has been done to her vital organs.
