Thank You to all guests, sponsors and partners of the Shanghaiist Earthquake Benefit: You've raised RMB228,336!

Shanghaiist Earthquake Benefit at Sasha's

The turnout last night was phenomenal! The lines flowed out the door and onto the streets, the beer taps ran dry, no could hear the raffle winners’ names, and the BBQ queue was unbelievable… but, beautifully, no one seemed to care.

Much to our surprise and delight, 728 people attended the Benefit BBQ and contributed 131,040 RMB. (One manager who has worked at Sasha’s for years, said she has never seen that many people there at one time.) We also received 9,424 RMB in extra donations from those that bought more raffle tickets and people that donated over 180 RMB for their BBQ. That total of 140,464 RMB was matched 50% by an anonymous donor. Additionally, Zapata’s raised 17,640 RMB in a party later that evening.

All those numbers add up to a grand total of 228,336 RMB or over 32,800 USD, ALL of which will go towards the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (not the "Foundation for Charity Alleviation“ that some of you saw in your emails ;-) ).

A great big thank you to Sasha’s outstanding manager, Steven Burns, who was such a pleasure to work with, and his amazing managers, Kiki and Kate, and staff (many came in on their day off to volunteer for the event last night)! Also, Glory, the meat supplier, and Stella Artois, the beer supplier, donated a huge amount of food and drinks for the event!

Our gratitude goes out to companies that provided their services:
Daedalum Films: Video for the benefit
Hill and Knowlton: PR services
International Channel Shanghai: Benefit TV Coverage
Yue Foundation: Photography services (Pictures will be on our Facebook page and website soon!)

We also greatly appreciate Hands on Shanghai directors and volunteers: Rich Brubaker, Fang Hui, Katie Howe, Peter Tan, and Sung Park. You can still volunteer to go to Sichuan province to help with Hands on Chengdu. They are looking for volunteers to help anywhere from one week to one year.

Additionally, we are very grateful to Shanghaiist’s friends and partners who got pulled into the benefit organizational madness: Bliss Khaw, Laurence King, Sam Braybon (poor guy thought he was coming to the BBQ for the free flow Stella) and Dylan Chen.

In all the charity frenzy, we still have a lot of unclaimed prizes. Check the list of our generous donors to see if your name is there! To collect your prize at Sasha’s you will need your ID. Also, if you want to try to swap your gift with other winners (after you collect it), leave a comment for each other below this post.
