Video from Daedalum Films
Note from the editors: Our friends, Luis Tapia and Arnaud Kamphuis from Daedalum Films (hire them for all your video needs!) have sent us this wonderful video of the Shanghaiist Earthquake Benefit at Sasha's in which you guys helped to raise the eye-popping amount of RMB228,336 (sorry we just had to repeat it!). Apart from that long list of sponsors and partners we'd like to thank for making the event a great success, we also want to take this opportunity to thank contributors Jake Newby and Wee Ling Soh for their help through this event. We also want to highlight that this event would not have been at all possible without the great vision and dedication of Tiffany Lemay — Shanghaiist's very own prodigal daughter and one of our earlier contributors who deserted us to work in the jungles of Brazil (no kidding!) but has just come back to join us. She basically called us up three days after the quake and said, "Kenneth! I have an epiphany! I woke up this morning and decided Shanghaiist needs to do this earthquake benefit!"... to which we responded... "Tiffany, we're not sure if any of us has the time or effort to do this but if you're willing to put this together, we will be behind you 100%." Being the only person on the team who is, erm, between jobs (note to employers: grab her!), Tiffany bravely went on ahead and somehow managed to find the wonderful Steven Burns of Sasha's, and together, they called up everyone in their rolodex (including the mystery donor, God bless his/her heart), and miraculously managed to put this together in a matter of days. Although what we've raised is just a tiny drop in the great ocean of needs, it's been really heart-warming to see so many people come together to help a bunch of people they don't know, and we know we're not the only ones raising money in town. In fact, we've heard it mentioned a few times that what we're seeing across China now with everyone chipping in to help is similar to what New York went through after 9/11. So that's all for now, and once again, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you, Shanghai!
