Photos: Springtime Roller Revival

If not for our friend who was scheduled to guest DJ there, we really wouldn't have headed to Springtime Roller Revival. For one, the roller rink appears to be located in the middle-of-nowhere (Yichuan Road near Ganquan Road, anyone?). Factor in the 200RMB cover, probably the priciest we've seen in all of our two-plus years in Shanghai, we weren't quite optimistic if anyone would make the trip there on a Friday night.

Turns out we were sorely wrong. Not only were there tons of people game to roller skate, they all came decked out in over-the-top 80s gear. Our verdict: Go for the next Roller Revival with a bunch of your pals if you have extra cash to spare, it'll definitely make for a terrific and entertaining night out (amazing retro dance floor not to be missed). Don't pin too high hopes on the open bar though, it's just crap beer and diluted drinks.

Rollerdisco-ing while Sichuan burns. You couldn't make it up. Let's hope these c@nts are still wearing their skates when a massive tidal wave hits Shanghai, thus weighing them down and cleansing the world of the noxious presence all the quicker.

And what a relief for Shanghaiist to be able to get back to its normal business, harmless expat frivolity!

Was there any kind of earthquake acknowledgment at the roller disco? at 200RMB per person, one would think that they could do *something* with it....

jenming - I didn't hear anything, I suppose not.

Looks to me as though a lot less people turned up than usual? Can't be sure though because I've never been to any of the Roller Revival events.

rldh is right. Anytime something horrible happens in the world we should spend every waking moment mourning. A little bit of fun and/or a momentary distraction from life's low points should be forbidden. Clearly everyone at the skate event has no respect for the victims of two weeks ago or they would not have been there. when rldh and my natural buoyancy and amazing swimming skills allow us to survive his imaginary tidal wave, you will all drown below us. According to rldh's own rules we then promise not to do anything fun for several weeks to somehow prove to others that we care about your loss.

Admit it, you're the one in the beige cords aren't you?

rldh, I assume you're sitting in the dark in your ash cloth, fasting and praying continuously? But wait, no, you're here on the internet frivolously wasting your time on a public forum when you could be flagellating and purging in deference to all the suffering taking place in the world. Shame on you!
