The next time you are at Shanghai Centre Element Fresh, be sure to check out what's on the walls as you wait for your order to arrive. Shanghai-based Canadian artist Jeffery Robert Bleazard has donated six of his artworks to the Sichuan Earthquake Charity Art Auction organized by Element Fresh and the paintings will be on display at Shanghai Centre Element Fresh until June 8.
Quite appropriately so, four out of the six paintings are from his Symbol series, on which he had spoken of “peel[ing] away the superficial and cosmetic and what remains is the basic human desires for love and respect, family and friendship… we are all fragile beings seeking beauty in our present life and we all feel this way regardless of where we come from.”
How does this auction work then? It takes the form of a silent auction where interested parties will email their bids (note that a minimum bid has already been reserved for each painting) to karim@elementfresh.com and on June 2, they will be informed of how their bid compares to the current highest bidder. Bidders can then choose to revise their bid anytime before the auction closes on June 8. Funds raised i.e. 100% of the proceeds will be used by Shanghai Roots & Shoots to purchase supplies for distribution in three schools in the crisis area. Do good, buy art and have a hearty brunch while you are at it - how does that sound this weekend?
