ahh.. lovely to see CCP back to it's usual routine. Suprised not to hear any "outspoken" netizens annoyingly chanting "go china" find out these corrupt officials or police who dragged the parents away get their names, adress etc and lynch them like they did Sharon Stone and the little girl both for bad mouthing....I'm lovin it :)

This goes along with what I have been suspecting all along. Many media outlets and foreign governments have been praising a new openness. Yet there is not a new openness. Being open about only one kind of news (positive earthquake coverage) is not openness.

What negativity that has gotten through, namely concerns about the quality of the buildings that collapsed, is due to the fact that the problem is so evident that nobody can deny it.

The parents of the children who unfortunately lost their lives have been allowed a time of mourning, but they are being sent a message that they are not to make this a problem for the government.

As long as people see Chinese soldiers helping others (Heck! 10,000 were deployed to find a downed relief helicopter alone. That was big news!) and hear about relief coming in, the "openness" will continue.

Once again, the central government is swooping to the defense of local officials because it feels it can't afford to let the people's lack of confidence in local officials spiral into something that could affect its power. Life goes on in China.
