Having written about a couple of his campaign events in the past, it should be clear by now that we are unabashed supporters of Barack Obama, the junior senator from Illinois who is running for president of the United States. It’s not that we didn’t try to find Shanghai-based groups supporting other candidates; it just appears there aren’t any. Now that Obama has sewn up the Democratic party’s nomination and can focus on the general election in November, we bring to your attention another conference call fundraiser for our favorite presidential candidate.
On June 19th, Ivo Daalder and Phil Gordon, senior foreign policy advisors for the Obama for America campaign, will be conducting a Q&A at a reception held in Pudong. This being a fundraiser and all, attendees are asked to contribute $250 USD to attend the event. Those wishing to meet with the two featured guests at an earlier private reception are being asked to contribute $1000 USD. And since this is a US political event, only US citizens and permanent US residents can attend.
More details, including bios of the speakers and directions to the location of the event, can be found here. That is also the site for guests to RSVP.
UPDATE: We have just gotten word that this fundraising event has been canceled. The organizers sent out an e-mail blast and apologized for any inconveniences that were caused.
