apart from that, strong photo though. any photoshopping or other retouches made?
There are many stories in that photo, most of them not very pleasant. But it is necessary to see and be confronted with the honesty exhibited.
dutchmaster: no photoshopping (sharpened, vignetted and levelled in Lightroom), but the image was made from 3 exposures to capture detail in the both the places where the Sun shone and detail in the shadow. Our eyes have a greater effective dynamic range than a camera, so combining exposures actually gets one closer to our perception of an image.
