it says "review" up above but all i see is criticism of some aspects of the story on which the script is based, thus omitting all the wonderful cinematic aspects. yes it does have flaws but come on...

I don't see why aliens in El Dorado is less believable than 1,000-year-old crusaders in a forgotten rock city in the Middle East, who guard the authentic holy grail behind CGI saws coming out of the wall to slice peons' heads off, invisible bridges and collapsable tiles that spell the name of God in ancient languages.

I agree that parts of the film were cooky, and it did seem to lack a certain degree of authenticity at times. Notably, I think the film relied too much on CGIs. This seems to be a handicap of a lot of movies these days. The problem with the Star Wars series was that they thought they could allow CGIs to carry the movie and forgot about authentic acting and dialogues. A bit of that did seem into this last Indy flick.

As for the lack of a love interest, don't forget that Harrison Ford is in his 60s. A love interest would have been unbelievable to many people, and would have turned some off. Bringing back Marion and child to me was more of an attempt at closure. About the only way around this would be to provide the new junior with a love interest, but then it would not have been about Indy really.

In all, I would say that if you are looking for cheap enjoyment -- the type you get on DVD -- and you don't care if you ever watch the movie again, it is worth seeing. At worst, it is no harder to watch than a lot of the crap out there. It all depends on the attitude you take into it. Some were expecting a knock-out. I was just expecting a light slap on the cheek to make my weekend less burdensome.

At least I got to see a man survive a nuclear blast in a lead-lined refrigerator. Believe it... or not (so says Ripley).

While I do not doubt the lack of entertainment value of this much-too-hyped sequel, I also must question the expectation of anything approaching realism in a film of this genre. While a turd can be polished to a brilliant shine, it is still, none the less, a turd.

Thanks for the review. That's exactly how I felt when I watched the movie. I liked the first part, with the son, Indie calling him "Junior" like his father did and all, but the whole Alien thing turns out not believable at all. Dommage.

"that racist carcature of a Chinese kid from 'Temple of Doom.'"

Please do tell me how "Short-round" should have been portrayed in order to lend greater dignity to the Chinese people. Maybe he could have carried a Olympic torch to light Indy's way or taught the audience about the richness of Chinese culture. Would it then be a fair portrait? Personally, I found him funny and likable.

Anyway, at least this post confirms my suspicions that the movie sucks.
