You know I forgot to ask him if he knows about Da Shan- would Red Laowai like the idea of following in those footsteps, or would he see it as the horrible foreshadowing of a dystopian future?

Agree. The guy is having a bit of fun, and found himself a niche at the same time. If he becomes the next Da Shan, are you going to fault him for being creative with his niche? I'd go check out his performance just to see what's up if it weren't for the fact that I have to work Saturday.

To be expected huh? Any Lauweis who can speak Chinese well or pull a stunt like this will attract the attention of the masses. That's why DaShan is famous for no reason other than he is able to speak Chinese fluently, and be somewhat less than passive in front of a camera.
