Around Shanghai: LPG price is up, first HFMD death confirmed, further efforts to go green

- The price of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) for motorbikes and taxis in Shanghai has been raised and standardized to 4.7 yuan per liter, up from 4.2 yuan for motorbikes and 3.6 yuan for taxis. Luckily, cab fares won't be going up because the city's policy makers have decided to reimburse cabbies for the increase.
- Shanghai officials confirmed the first death in the city of hand, foot, and mouth disease. The victim was a two-year-old boy who died on Saturday at a local hospital.
- Police are investigating an English school called the Miracle English Garden after it recruited over 400 students (whose parents paid the school about RMB 10,000) and subsequently suspended all classes for one month. The school's employees also filed a labor arbitration application for unpaid wages.
- In the central government's latest effort to go green, Shanghai residents now have the option to pay half the price of an energy-saving light bulb, as Shanghai will provide subsidies for 1 million such light bulbs this year.
