This was my favorite place to eat when staying in Shanghai. Amy made long stays away from home a bit more tolerable. Maggi was the best waitress in the world. Gonna miss you both.

This is a tragedy for expats in Shanghai. It seemed to go downhill after the Hawaii owner disappeared. Who was the damn partner that screwed this up? Partners are always the demise of restaurants - especially in China.

Bummer for sure, this really sucks. I really don't like City Diner, much preferred the MRD in Jing'an. Never really made it though. I'll miss the Southern Fried Chicken....yum!

anyone who went to any of the mr locations regularly could have seen this one coming for awhile now...mr peaked shortly after they opened the jian an location, but started their slide shortly afterwards... consistency of food, no more fun, newsey monthly menus, dwindling crowds, etc. they were the first of the diner breed in town & greg was a great guy, so a sad loss for SH for sure... but their chocolate cake was the best in the city, hands down, right up until the not so sweet ending

Oreo milkshakes, decent diner breakfast and good mac and cheese. The kid's grilled cheese was good too - but the "grown-up" grilled cheese was an awful mess.

Actually I will miss the friendly staff and the steak and Eggs breakfast the most... and their milk shakes... damn.
