Urumqi police have raided an apartment which housed 15 ethnic Uyghurs and alleged Islamic terrorists shouting "sacrifice for Allah". A spokesman said they tried to break out when police used tear gas to flush them out, wielding knives and injuring one policeman. Subsequently, police shot dead five, injured another two (which were sent to the hospital) and captured the remaining nine. A Xinhua report says the suspects have confessed that they've been planning for a 'holy war' to kill 'infidel' Han people. [Reuters] [The Telegraph]

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Nice, puhlease, nice.
You believe everything Chinese media and security tell you?
Puh-f'ing-lease.
I often wonder how quickly the westerners are changing their attitute whenever it comes to China. A terrorist can easily become freedom fighters if agaisnt China instead of West.
Seems one is a terrorist only when he fight west.
They can never learn the lesson from their double standard and the hard lesson of Bin Ladin who finally plucked the America's 2 front teeth.
Sad!
That was Nanheyangrouchuan's family.
eastman, your assumptions are tired and ignorant.
You don't know much about the "West," do you? If you did, you'd know there's vigorous debate regarding Islam and "terrorism" and that many in the US and Europe are exceedingly skeptical of their own governments' tendency to label various groups and individuals "terrorist" for reasons of political expediency and as cover for pushing various agendas.
Many in the "West" are very skeptical of reports issuing from US and European governments and media on "terrorism," and with good reason--there's ample evidence of lies, botched "intelligence" and cynical manipulation of popular opinion. China's government and media are certainly no better on these accounts, I'm quite sure.
Governments lie: that's the point. You're a fool if you take government-issued information at face value, whether it's the US or the Chinese or the UK government. They all have long records of lying. OK? At least in countries with freer media, people can openly challenge their governments lies--that's another important point, and one you'd understand if you knew anything about the "West."
Look: Non-Chinese who comment on this blog are generally interested in learning about China and are open to changing their views based on what they learn. Perhaps you should bother to learn a bit more about the object of your lame comments rather than spewing dopey knee-jerk reactions to every little bit of criticism that threatens to "hurt the feelings of the Chinese people."
Ok, whenever there is so much as a suggestion raised that a number of Fundamentalist muslims are possible terror suspects, all the Muslim clerics raise a commotion in the Middle East. Our Presidents have to then pacify them and make sure that their feelings are not hurt.
Now, in the case of China, when they are blatantly violating expected Human Rights standards and are trying to ethnically cleanse the minorities including a large number of Muslims in Xinjiang and other parts of China's northern provice, where are these so called leaders of the Muslim society?
Mute protests against China's heinous acts should mean only one thing to the Muslim people, that their clerics and religious leaders are solely interested in getting political mileage from protesting against Israel and the West, but when the safety and lives of their Muslim brethren are actually in danger, such as the uyghurs in Northern China, they are truly not concerned in their welfare.
Or is it because these leaders try to equate Islam with being Arabic, and hence since the uyghurs are not Arabs, the Islamists are not concerned?
