As we mentioned earlier this week, the Ted Koppel special "The People's Republic of Capitalism" is currently airing on the Discovery Channel in the U.S. For those of you who can't wait for the bittorrent, here are some clips from the series, most of which was filmed in Chongqing.
The People's Republic of Capitalism:
The American and Chinese economies are irreversibly intertwined.
Not to rub it in or anything, but this particular Shanghaiist is currently in the U.S. and has been glued to the television screen from 9-10 the past two nights. That being said, we feel that the following clips have been decontextualized and the message within the clips at times almost runs contrary to the message from the program. For a much better understanding of what each segment is about, read the summaries found here.
The People's Republic of Construction:
In China there is no shortage of labor for its booming urban development.
The People's Republic of Culture:
Chinese Dinner Theater celebrates the Cultural Revolution with song and dance.
The People's Republic of Cross-Dressing
The People's Republic of Cars:
China has half the number of cars as the US but twice the car-related deaths.
The People's Republic of Choreography

First video response I've found to this series. Gotta go check my Seesmic and see if anyone's talking about it.
Just some more "win win" crap from panda licking American bankers. How much money have their Chinese "partners" taken them for since they arrived?
Ted Koppel is awesome! Good to see him out in the field after ABC.
