Top stars sing for Tibet

1883979655_f6ec847e8a%282%29.jpgWith less than 3 weeks to go before the Games, some of the most famous stars in show business are lending their voices to the latest stand on behalf of Tibet — a move that's sure to anger the Chinese government. Sting, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Alanis Morissette, Moby and a host of others are performing on an album entitled "Songs for Tibet," the International Campaign for Tibet announced in a press release on Tuesday. "We wanted to express our support for the Tibetan people and their message of peace through music, a fundamental means of expression, at a time when the eyes of the world are on China," said Michael Wohl, one of the album's organizers. The album's global release on iTunes is scheduled for August 5, three days before the Olympic opening ceremonies.

Sting et. al are not the first celebrities to express their opinions on the Tibet issue. As AFP reports, Icelandic artist Bjork "earned the ire" of Chinese authorities when she yelled "Tibet" several times during a concert in Shanghai in March, motivating Beijing to toughen restrictions on foreign performers. Shortly after, American singer Harry Connick Jr. was subjected to the "heavy-handed tinkering of his set list" by Chinese censors before a performance at the Shanghai International Gymnastics Center. So far, we have not heard of a response from Beijing to "Songs for Tibet."

Happy to know Sting sings for Daliar who sang a carol for Chairman Mao in 1951:

A less idiotic one here could translate the poem for all to read. In the poem, he compared Mao as almighty king of ancient India and flatered Mao as sun shining over earth and his works as precious pearls and wished him immortal.

Maybe sting could make it into a song.

I fully expect to be nicely called a CCP member or a 50-cent funny thing you nightmared, for my kindness to enlighten you all. lol!

Honestly, i don't like Dalai Lama very much, because he just is a monk. I once asked a guy from Tibet: what do u think of Dalai?"
"He is nothing but a suit!" He told me.Then i was shock, and he told me"bla bla....."
So i think that monk can not do anything for the tibetan people, actually he hasn't do anthing yet.He always say that"I talk peace!"
Peace my arse! Dalai is a joke! Interesting dirty shit!
Q:A monk can speak democracy??
A:Bollocks!

To eastman:
hey mate, you said that Dailai once kissed MAO's arse?
Really?! A monk talks politics?
Gosh! A dirty shit!

It's hard for the Dalai Lama to "do" anything for Tibetan people because he was exiled from the country. You might want to carefully examine everything he's ever said, he's consistently spoken about peace, he's the figurehead of a peaceful religion. To find out the reason why Tibetans are angry, you might try something like, ummm, say, talking to them, and more than just one. Han Chinese have taken over the Tibetan economy. Yes, the government has spent lots of money there, but Han Chinese receive, by far, the most benefits. Tibetans are being reduced to prostitutes and thieves in their own land, and their religion is being completely usurped by the Communist Party, which imprisons senior monks and installs loyal communist party members in the religious leadership. Tibetans didn't start riots across 5 Chinese provinces for nothing, so before you go and start childishly calling people names (which accomplishes what exactly?) try objectively ascertain the facts and propose viable solutions.
Also, Mao, who's gross incompetence led to the deaths of 25,000,000 Chinese, probably doesn't deserve the irrelevantly (1951 friend of a friend... ok...) mentioned praise "sun shining over the earth." Unless, of course, you consider terror and famine on an unimaginable scale to be "work as precious as pearls." But if you feel that way about him, a feeling most of my Chinese friends don't share, then power to you. In Canada, we long treated our minorities badly. That was a mistake. I hope China has the wisdom not to make the same one we did.

To stephan Larose,

You sound pretty fair about our minority brothers. And PLS give my warmest regards to your minority in Quabac whose riot one day in the future will be called by me as peaceful demonstration. Thanks.

Stephan speaks the truth. More power dude!

To Stephen
"In Canada, we long treated our minorities badly."
Of course, mate, white first policy just like in china-Han first

To stephen again:

"Yes, the government has spent lots of money there, but Han Chinese receive, by far, the most benefits. "
I think the Tibetan is bornd stupid ,haha!

wow! sting, dave matthews, john mayer, alanis morissette, AND Moby!! an incredible showing of star power and talent united to support..!!!

honestly, who cares? ..nothing but of bunch of no talent a$$holes. think about that...everyone of these people are giant pricks in real life. stick to your day job...leave politics alone.

If those listed are no talent assholes, then what are Chinese artists?

Other than corporations and cowardly politicians, the rest of the people of the world shall unite and remove the influence of Bad China from the planet.

fine. talent or no talent...agreed that they're assholes. obviously you know what you're talking about.

i respect the well intentions of these people. these benefit concerts happen about every 4 secs somewhere on this planet. often more for personal publicity than not (i'm very very cynical). imo, if you want to make a difference, just quietly throw some cash at it or just volunteer. it comes off a bit more genuine this way.

my point IS these people are not anthropology, political science, or international policy geniuses here.

These are people are one hit wonder makers, past their prime making a living milking that Cow to death. drumming up extra publicity for them selves doesn't hurt.

and once your question their sincerety then it makes you question their knowledge of their cause. In general the 2 groups of these types of people in the US shouting free tibet or attending free tibet concerts are one, adolescent teenagers in college going through their own intellectual enlightenment stage while completely overwhelmed by their naivity or two, they are west coast hipters who are talking through their ass about the next big 'hot' topic whether its global warming, tibet, gun, fur industry...all while smoking their hash and draining the us welfare system.

btw, the only reason i went at a tibet benefit concert in 97 was to see rage.

yes Chinese artists may suck real hard at the moment. and your point is?

There are far more pressing humanitarian crisies happening, i wouldn't call these politicians cowardly. us politician tackle topics dictated by those who pay them, their constituents. the us people just don't care about china and tibet.

Hey Stephan, I've got a viable solution. Tell the Dalai Lama and the multinational Dalai Lama Incorporated, who takes in hundreds of millions YEARLY in funding to give it all away to its people? I think that would also solve the whole Tibetans 'reduced to prostitutes and thieves' problem.

@blicket:

Sting has been making music longer than you've been alive, and Alanis is no newcomer on the scene either.

As for political geniuses, they don't exist in the CCP so any "proof" offered up by the commie baby killers is just lies written on toilet paper.

It would be nice if the millions raised every year could go to Tibetans living in the occupied territories, but they are subject to the whims of grotesque CCP bosses who rape and pillage at whim.

@nanheyangrouchuan
like I said..
"These are people are one hit wonder makers, past their prime making a living milking that Cow to death. drumming up extra publicity for them selves doesn't hurt."

"sting has been making music longer than youve been alive" music?

I don't see how being old, being older than me, or time in the the music industry is any indication of personal knowlege. don't be confused old does not equate to being wise. yes and sting and alanis are quite wise. by the way you're writing i can also make a few assumptions.

get a grip man..rape and pillage? source? You like most people have bought into this media hype equating tibet to darfur, rwanda or bosnia is ludicrous
