It’s been a scorcher of a week and those little AC units are working on overtime. So much so, that it threatens to plunge us all into darkness. Okay, maybe the situation hasn’t gotten that melodramatic, but according to Xinhua News we used a whopping 22.43 million kilowatts yesterday afternoon, or roughly one kilowatt per person (shame on you if you used two).
The good news is we didn’t sweat as much yesterday, the bad news is we might sweat a hell of a lot more tomorrow if we keep going at this pace:
The city had closely monitored its electricity consumption, and set power consumption limits for some overloaded areas such as the massive Minhang, Songjiang and Pudong districts.
Yet another reason not to live in Pudong (or Minhang for that matter). If the lights do go out at least we can all congregate in the metro stations-turned-refugee camps, where everyone else goes to bask in the free AC.
