Let the Games begin...

Amanda Beard for Peta

  • Yesterday, four Tibetan activists managed to unfurl two protest banners (including one that read "One World, One Dream, Free Tibet") and other Tibetan flags near the Bird's Nest. The flags were up for close to an hour before they were taken down by authorities and the activists detained, say Students for a Free Tibet.
  • This loin-stirring ad featuring US swimming star Amanda Beard in her birthday suit was meant to be unveiled in a press conference by animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), but the conference was canceled after a midnight visit by the PSB to PETA representatives at their hotel. Undeterred, Beard went ahead to hold a small protest outside the Olympic village by holding up her poster.
  • Less than 24 hours before his flight to Beijing, Olympic speed skating champion and Team Darfur founder Joey Cheek has had his Chinese visa revoked.
  • The four US cyclists Michael Friedman, Sarah Hammer, Bobby Lea and Jennie Reed who recently arrived at the Beijing airport with their masks on have now issued an open apology to "BOCOG, the city of Beijing and the people of China" together with the US Olympic committee. In it, they clarified that the wearing of the masks were a precautionary measure that they had chosen to take independently and was by no means a political statement.
  • Chinese singer Liu Huan (刘欢) and British singer Sarah Brightman have been announced as the singers of the Olympic theme song, Dream, in the opening ceremony tomorrow.
  • US President George Bush is due in China soon to open the humongous new US embassy building in Beijing and to attend the opening ceremony of the Games. And oh, he also intends to attend church while he's here to bring home his message to Chinese leaders that they should not fear religious people in Chinese society because "religious people will make your society a better place". Hmm...

Amanda Beard certainly chose a wrong place. The press conference should be held in Tibet where Tibeten poachers are hunting lepeods and tigers for their Holyness and Shara Stone, on daily basis.

--"religious people will make your society a better place". HAHAHA!

You guys really voted in a real cute helmsman! How about Evangelic? LOL!

Religionists make everyone else miserable by their constant harangue of conformity. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that even the religionists can't agree on what they must actually conform to, since every group of them believes something different.

I defer to a president with a bit more respect than Bush:

"Twenty times in the course of my late reading have I been upon the point of breaking out, 'This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it!'" --John Adams, A Biography in His Own Words

They've finally revealed who is going to light the cauldron:

"In a spectacular display, five FLG members dressed up as the Olympic mascots will self-immolate and dive into the cauldron 100 feet below."

It is going to be awesome.

They should have let the chinese build that hideous embassy and bug the hell out of it. They wouldn't learn much listening to idiots like George Bush.
