Yesterday, four Tibetan activists managed to unfurl two protest banners (including one that read “One World, One Dream, Free Tibet”) and other Tibetan flags near the Bird’s Nest. The flags were up for close to an hour before they were taken down by authorities and the activists detained, say Students for a Free Tibet.

The four US cyclists Michael Friedman, Sarah Hammer, Bobby Lea and Jennie Reed who recently arrived at the Beijing airport with their masks on have now issued an open apology to “BOCOG, the city of Beijing and the people of China” together with the US Olympic committee. In it, they clarified that the wearing of the masks were a precautionary measure that they had chosen to take independently and was by no means a political statement.
