In the quest for perfection during the Olympics opening ceremony, another boo-boo has been revealed.
It seems that pig-tailed seven-year old Lin Miaoke who "sang" "Ode to the Motherland" during the Olympics opening ceremony was actually lip-syncing! That's no suprise to anyone who watched the ceremony ... but this part of the story might be: Lin Miaoke wasn't even lip-syncing her own song. This is because the original angel voice belonged to Yang Peiyi, of the same age, whose face was deemed "not suitable" to appear during the ceremony. Pictures later show a smiling girl with bangs and crooked teeth.
Lin Maioke was already a mini-celebrity as she had appeared in a television ad last year with hurdling champion Liu Xiang and on her personal blog, posted a picture with Opening ceremony director Zhang Yimou.
According to AFP:
A member of China's Politburo asked for the last-minute change to match one girl's face with another's voice, the ceremony's chief music director, Chen Qigang, said in an interview with Beijing Radio."The audience will understand that it's in the national interest," … "We had to make that choice. It was fair both for Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi," Chen told Beijing Radio. "We combined the perfect voice and the perfect performance."
The blogosphere is raging with comments. From various reports:
One blog posting said, "Fake singing is bad, to make a lip synch is worse." Another said, "Leave the last bit of innocence to the children.""The organizers really messed up on this one," said Luo Shaoyang, 34, a retail worker in Beijing.
"This is like a voice-over for a cartoon character," Luo said. "Why couldn't they pick a kid who is both cute and a good singer? This damages the reputation of both kids for their future, especially the one lip-synching. Now everyone knows she's a fraud. Who cares if she's cute?"
Zhang Xinyi, 22, who works in marketing in Beijing, disagreed. "I can understand why they picked the prettier girl. They need to maintain a certain aesthetic beauty during the opening ceremonies. This situation is not so bad, especially since it gives two people an opportunity to shine rather than just one."
This is the second straight Olympics where the opening ceremony involved lip-syncing. Luciano Pavarotti's performance at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin was prerecorded due to the Pavarotti's complaints of severe pain, months before his cancer diagnosis.

What is the big deal? If they didn't care about aesthetics, they would just do an opening ceremony on par with the Athens game.. OUCH!

I guess my boner was unfounded
So someone from the Politburo, one of the highest levels of the government asked for the Chinese version of Jon Benet? Nevermind, now that I think about it, makes perfect sense.
What's the Chinese version of 'To Catch a Predator'?
Better point them at El Jefe...
I guess that joke was unfounded
Computer generating images of 29 firework footprints for broadcasting that night doesnt mean the firework did not do the job in real time.
kotaku.com lied when saying nothing happened in Tiananmen. look here, you'll know the real firework started from Tiananmen was not fake but a sour grape which will shame kotaku and Spielberg to death:

Its not necessary for Western media to still compete gold for China bashing. They already got it even before the game started.
Difference between Chinese and westerners, as I noticed, is Chinese dont complain to mistreatment and dont explain to misunderstanding. They are interested in last laugh instead last word. They are acting people who like low profile. They believe in hiding capacity and biding the time.
About this, Maurice Strong who stayed in China in last 40 years knows much better than all so-called expats here who are just a bunch of small men and who are not bright enough to lead a decent life in west and came to China pretending a "big belly" while cutting all their poor past away. Oh, how can I forget to add "narrow-minded" to them?

Here is summary, the fat to swollow for those who hate to read or to hate read more or simply hate Mr. Maurice Strong who is one of few expats who didnt waste their life time in China.
---Uninformed and ideologically biased critics of China should ask themselves why it is that the majority of Chinese today are better off and better satisfied than ever, why more overseas Chinese are returning to China, and why more foreigners are enjoying conditions of life here that make them want to stay, even if it involves changing their employment to do so. Indeed, I am one of the many who enjoy and appreciate being in China, and being caught up in the excitement of the remarkable dynamism of the unprecedented transition that this great nation is experiencing. Indeed, I feel privileged to participate in it. The re-emergence of China as a world leader is one of the most important events of this period of history, and one that will have a profound and decisive impact on the future of the entire human community. This is the China we know and want the entire world to know. The Beijing Olympics, which will focus the world spotlight on the new China, will provide a unique opportunity for the world to view China as its people and friends do.
Seriously, is anything not fake in this country?!
Yes everything in this country is fake, and we fake it perfectly. Are you scared?
Keep bashing China, the more the merrier. Like eastman said, we will see who have the last laugh.
For those who choose to be friends with China, we welcome and be friends with forever. For those who treat China as their enemy, then China is your enemy.
Does nobody else actually think that it is cool that the Games organisers used technology and stage performance to pull off something that nobody noticed until 2 days after the ceremony??
Think about this - we in the west are all complacent with the status quo that we live in and of what we think is the "ideal" society... the west instead of progress, spends more time imposing these values on the rest of the world.. meanwhile China is making progress in leaps and bounds.. Just look at what China has been able to do accomplish in the last 20 years.. What has the west done during that time? Who will lead the world in another 20-30 years?
I don't know why anyone would be upset about this. They both 'volunteered' right?
@ eastman
You forgot to mention the part where we come and steal all your bitches leaving you to jrk off with your pin dicked school mates
To puhlease,
Jerking off the whole day might be what you westerners have been doing in last 30 years.
While crewing your cheap yank whore delivered at door, I have no problem seeing your ex-step-dad shopping in Xiushui Street, the fake market for the poor 120,00 expats in Beijing who badmouth China everyday but simply cannot live without it. lol!

puhlease,
Losers like you can only steal. While you stealing, I'm having a great time with your mother and sisters.
I was deeply moved by the song ‘Ode to the Motherland’. It was not because of the cute little girl, Lin Miaoke or the voice of the other girl, Yang Peiyi but the content of the song. I don’t care who sang the song. At that moment, the song was sung out from billions Chinese’s bottom of heart. I burst in tears when I heard it. China is still far from a strong nation but has already drawn so much attention from the rest of world.
The performance in opening ceremony was a product of artists, which is not an athlete with doping to compete in the summer game. Why people care that so much and put it as headline of all news papers. Do people really care about the feeling of little girl? The opening ceremony did not hurt the little girl, Yang Peiyi but what media has done hurt the little girl such as title of this article. I think the little Yang Peiyi would cry if she reads this.Chinese culture won’t hurt Chinese little girls but Western interpretation will.
Please do not hold the kids as 'weapon' to attach China.
Yeah, commence Yawn-Fest 2008. BTW, it's E-L J-E-F-E, case sensitive.
There's a solution here: teach the "pretty girl" how to sing, and give the not-so pretty girl a big makeover so she can be a star.
I am a Chinese.Even if China has become stonger, but I think the social is so dark. For example, many China's website don not let us to talk about this.I can't find "Yangpeiyi"on Internet.I don't think someone that who has a pretty face can do everything. But the leader of China don't agree with me.They think even if your talent is very good, but you don't pretty enough. Then they will say:"you are too ugly to participate in this performance."
