The current effort to “greenify” Shanghai has reached new heights, with its rooftops being converted to gardens. The city’s goal is to have added 100,000 new square meters of green rooftops by the end of this year, so far 95,870 square meters of rooftop parks have been constructed. According to the China News Agency’s Shanghai bureau, there are altogether about 500,000 square meters of plant clad rooftops in the city — green areas equal to 50 Fuxing Parks. These green roof areas can, among other things, help to reduce dust and thus improve air quality. Roof garden party, anyone?
