- The World Expo Tunnel, which stretches beneath the Huangpu River, connecting Pudong and Puxi reached its full length on August the 20th: it's 2.67 kilometers long, and located 1.117 kilometers below the river.
- The soccer World Cup qualifier match between North and South Korea has been moved from Pyongyang to Shanghai, because the North had refused to play the anthem or fly the flag of its opponent (technically the two Koreas are still at war). The match is scheduled for September 10, sounds like an interesting game, eh?
- Migrant workers in Shanghai will be able to claim unemployment benefits and have the right to get health benefits while they are employed. This was stated by the department of safety in labor this week. Welcome news for a group who are definitely in need of a few more rights.
- The State Administration of Foreign Exchange will allow non-financial institutions in Shanghai and Beijing to offer currency exchange services to individuals. One such company, Aixiyi (艾西益) is currently running two exchange points at Pudong airport and Zhangjiang subway station. No word though on whether you can get foreign currency for your hard-earned yuan.
- The Shanghai Daily tells us that "Puxi fans of musical fireworks will no longer have to cross the river to enjoy a night sky filled with song and pyrotechnics" because a fireworks show will be held on the west side of the river in October during the Shanghai Tourism Festival.

see? china is really improving, just give it some time.
patience people patience!!!
The last time they did this it was a fantastic atmosphere.
The football I mean, not the currency exchange, although, who knows?
It is nice to see that they were sympathetic to the Koreans. Isn't it funny though that symbols of the Taiwan are illegal in China and China goes to great lengths to suppress them internationally too...

That's what I heard too. I was disappointed not to have made the effort to see it. I hope the game (on a Wednesday) will be in the evening so I can catch it after work.
The official FIFA schedule:

News says it will take place at Hongkou Stadium:

Would appreciate any info on tickets.
yeah it was at Hongkou last time too. I'm pretty sure we got tickets from touts outside but it was pretty much a capacity crowd and given the large Korean population here it's probably worth heading to the stadium and getting tickets in advance
The tunnel is 1.117km below the Huangpu?? Must be the deepest tunnel in the world!
I hope they mean the portion of the tunnel that is located under the river is where the Huangpu is 1.17km wide...
