Watch out ladies, Chinese men are on the prowl. According to this article in Mop, one Chinese man set out to settle a score against Western men, by staking out Western women visiting Beijing during the Olympics. The man in question is from a small town in the middle of nowhere, the kind of place where "in 20 years only one student made it into Tsinghua or Peking University." He managed to test into a technical college and now works in Beijing. His friend relates the story and the motive [in translation],
"Everyone knows, this year Beijing held a huge sporting event. Many foreigners came to watch and participate in the competitions. Of course, they also didn't forget to take advantage of our weak-willed Chinese women. My friend worried, 'Doesn't this mean you foreigners are not leaving any Chinese virgins for us Chinese? This is a disgrace and insult. Fine, if you can screw our Chinese women, then we can screw your foreign women too.' So he set out."
At first, he did not have any luck. Time after time he was rejected. Finally, he pinpointed the reason for his failure. He blamed it on the shoes. His epiphany was that while these bright, plastic shoes are all the rage in China, they are commonplace in foreign countries as shoes for the working class. So he decked himself out from head to toe in name brand clothing and went to a bathhouse to get cleaned up (now we know the real reason he was getting rejected). The story continues,
"Confidence renewed, he immediately went out to the shopping plaza, crouched down and waited, scanning the crowds for hours. Finally he spotted a foreign girl walking alone and immediately stood up. Too quickly, it seems, blood rushed to his head and he had to steady himself on a nearby trashcan for several minutes. He thought to himself gloomily, 'It's over, finally spotted one and now she's going to disappear.' Then the unexpected happened, the foreign girl came over and asked in a concerned voice, 'Can I help you?'... Without going into too much detail, let's just say after day two, my friend's legs felt like Jell-O."
This Chinese man goes on to advise all his friends and the readers of Mop, that if you are going to screw a woman, make sure it is a foreign woman, because the sex is great, and more importantly you can chalk one up for China. To prove that he's not just making the story up, he posts a picture — as if that proves anything. We feel sorry for the girl whose picture is being paraded over the Chinese web in association with this article. Think twice ladies next time a Chinese stranger innocently asks to take a picture with you (and who hasn't had that happen to them?).
We are not sure which is more offensive here, that (a) Chinese men actually think Western women can be used to settle a score, (b) Western women are easy enough to sleep with a random Chinese guy after meeting them on the streets in China, or as the title of the post implies, that (c) Western women will sleep with you if you are wearing branded clothing. You certainly won't catch us extending kindness to any of the local men any time soon.

Many Chinese girls perceive western guys to have dough. And in many cases even with English teachers they're right. If you're making 1000 kuai a month or whatever, but you know you can hook a Western guy who makes 10 times that amount, and treat you decently, why not?

Chinese guys continue to delude themselves about Chinese girls, western men and money, it has much more to do with masculinity (perceived or otherwise) as well as grooming and how the girls are treated (that has been told to me by Chinese girls).
And even if the perception of beauty is different, in a country where the boy/girl ratio is almost 3:1, local guys need to get their acts together in a big hurry.
BTW, I've met western girls (including latinas) who married Chinese guys and the overall experience was pretty bad.

I'm sure the person who wrote this article is just not very good with women. There are lots of Chinese guys who have their act together and get plenty of play. It doesn't matter whether you are a laowai or local, girls want a guy who treats them well, respects them, and is interesting to be around.

That could be dangerous on more than one level. I had a friend who took a girl home one time who he'd just met, and she pulled a knife on him after they had sex. She was about a centimeter short of puncturing his lung. Now, I know that's a very extreme case, but I can't help feeling that girls going home with complete strangers is an invitation for trouble. One can never underestimate the power of the "Playboy" brand, especially when you go head to toe in it.

The way I have been treated as a Chinese American in China has been all over the place (positive and negative), so I would have a hard time pinpointing any one over-arching perception.

It's like what you mentioned, both positive and negative but for the most part is much more positive.
The two major things that entice Chinese people about the West is the education and the wealth. And having a foreign passport automatically gets you some bonus points.
So Chinese Americans have it pretty good in China. Since most of us are wealthier than the locals, we're sorta validate their beliefs.
However there's also a backlash on this as many Chinese Americans project an image that they're "better" than the locals simply because they have a Western education and background.

I'll put it this way, and it's most evident with Chinese American men. If a local guy (in Shanghai) wants to get married he'll have need a very high paying job, own a car, a house, and other material possessions.
However, a Chinese American can have much less than that and he'll still qualify simply because of his foreign passport and the "perception" of "better future returns" because of it.

1) I think most people agree it's about more than wealth.
2) Even if it were about wealth, China will be poorer on a per capita basis -- possibly forever.

@Open I (Thalia) was half amused and half annoyed by the audacity of that one particular Chinese man bragging about hooking up with a foreigner. I was mildly offended, but not particularly angry. I AM angry that "child molestering" and prostitution exist, but that knows no race.
Maybe a little bit of friendly competition is good though. I can see a future where Chinese men exchange tips and tricks with Western ones (guys who have a wealth of material available to them about "how to please a woman"). I could see that as a very positive development for Chinese women. I feel like the more enlightened among Western men know that sex is less about themselves and more about leaving their partner satisfied. Has that attitude spread over in China yet?
