City's bad habits surveyed

pandacigg.jpgAs part of the preparations for the Shanghai World Expo, the municipal government has marked the 600 day countdown by publishing a report on "uncivilized behavior" among locals. The report is based on an online survey in which over 5,000 Shanghai citizens were polled on what kind of behavior they consider annoying or rude.

Smoking in public places made it to number one on the list of "most disgusting behavior", although most people still seem to tolerate it: Only 14 percent said that they would intervene to stop what they considered as uncivilized actions.

Other interesting findings according to Shanghai Daily: Over 70 percent of those who joined the survey said they would simply continue to put up with the unsavory habits, 61 percent of the respondents said they had been responsible for uncivilized behavior themselves, but would pay more attention to self-discipline. Only two percent said they acted wrongly often, while 37 percent said they had never indulged in uncivilized behavior.

"37 percent said they had never indulged in uncivilized behavior."

It's a point of view. Some may not realize they're "misbehaving" while others can be completely overly sensitive about it.
