Most might assume that a week without a weekend might make for a dull time, void of events worthy of checking out. Well, this week they would be wrong. In the lead up to the October holiday there are 4 solid nights of gigs to choose from.
Tonight in order to promote the inclusion of a few Shanghai bands in the Modern Sky Festival, those bands will be performing at Yuyintang. It should be a interesting show, besides the always solid Cold Fairyland the reclusive Top Floor Circus is finally back on stage as is Island 33. The often neglected Live Bar is hosting Monokino the lone foreign band on the Modern Sky Festival roster. But wait, that isn't all, Daedelus the DJ maestro will be at Shelter doing an improvised set of his synthpop beats that are featured on numerous Busdriver and MF Doom tracks.
Friday, Monokino moves on to Yuyintang where they will be playing a 2nd show for those who missed their Live Bar Performance. TNT Soma, a metal band from Beijing, will give the small Shanghai head bangers community a chance to unfurl their hair. For hardcore Hard Queen fanatics head to Bee Dees where the band is taking up regular Friday night slots.
Saturday, a bunch of animal loving bands will be hosting an Anti-Fur concert at Live Bar, we recommend showing up with some bbq skewers from the street. Joker an old rock band is playing at Yuyintang, while STD has brought back Av Okubo for a frolicking night at Logo.
Sunday, damn, the shows just keep coming. Useless ID an Israeli pop-punk band that was supposed to be playing Midi is in town. Joker, that rock band we mention earlier is out at Live Bar and if that isn't enough...the Global Battle of the Bands is taking place at the Melting Pot. Winners of that competition win free trips to Hong Kong to perform in the regional battle.
