that is so f§%ked up. but do not say that the chinese have no academic excellence.but ROTE learning does limit their prowess and thinking to a matter of recall.hey the language requires it. i actually seen in the countryside a small girl given a stick to beat her classmates with-interesting version of corporal punishment-peer punishment

So is Shanghaiist just going to start reposting the sickest stuff from China Smack now and pretending it's a current event? The teacher, from what I understand, had a history of mental illness with a propensity for violence but was still allowed to teach. I believe he ended up being institutionalized again.

child abuse is rampant in this country. if you report it to police, they tell you that this is chinese style education, you just don't understand it. neighbours children "study" even during the holidays 9-5, the ones who resist and want to play outside risk a viscios beating. I would not call it study, I would call it "spending time starring at books". also a form of child abuse, leading nowhere. little wonder that there is so ridiculously little academic excellence coming out of this country of 1.3 billion.
