  • Marks & Spencer's 40,000 sq ft Shanghai store opened yesterday on Nanjing Xi Lu, as hordes of curious Shanghai shoppers rushed for its lingerie, biscuits and jam, writes The Times.
  • Health officials have announced a more streamlined and centralised blood collection system to be in place in the city by 2010.
  • The dirty, polluted Suzhou Creek will be cleaned up and remade into a "cultural corridor" that will attract businesses and tourists alike.
  • Over 50 karaoke bars in Shanghai signed an agreement yesterday with municipal authorities to pay a copyright fee of 6 yuan per room per day for the whole of 2008.
  • Construction has begun on the 66 storey, 300m tall White Magnolia Plaza on the west side of the Huangpu River. Designed by the Chicago-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, this will be Puxi's biggest building and is scheduled to be completed by 2012.

Marks & Spencers: WHERE on Nanjing Xi Lu? Nearest subway stop?

So how many consecutive years has the Shanghai gov't been planning to clean up Suzhou creek?

It could be somewhat a bewildment to me how Marks & Spencers will position itself in Shanghai. It could be a British/ Continental version of Jiu-guang or lower a little bit to be a local Karstadt. But for sure, going with its original style to serve ladies in their 40s in London should have no way here.
