No Smoking*

no-smoking.JPGWhilst smoking bans in restaurants and bars seem to be spreading throughout the rest of the world, Shanghai is having second thoughts.

City Diner introduced a no-smoking rule on their second floor earlier this year, but now have an unwritten rule that customers can light up with their late night burgers (after 2am or when the Blues Room bar downstairs is closed).

At the recently-opened Japanese restaurant Matsuri Express (in the basement of Jiu Guang / connected to Jing-An Metro station) customers can only smoke outside the hours of 10am-5pm.

A good compromise?

Well, 15:00 is not 5pm but 3pm

I love the smoking-regulation in Bavaria, no smoking at all (Except so called smoking clubs where you have to be a member and Oktoberfest).

no smoking is fine, 谢谢

Thanks Zideshowbob, I never was very good with the 24 hour clock. Fixed now.

Rado- is that "No, smoking is fine" or "'No smoking' is fine"?

Enforcement, enforcement, enforcement.

Nothing here will ever stick, unfortunately, when some poor 18-yr old Anhui kid has to go up to a loudmouthed, crew cutted, gold golfball-sized chain necklace, long-pinky fingernail sporting sleazeball puffing away and threatening all the staff because of his "guanxi"

Here the article still says 5pm...

BTW, the arivle remeinds me to the city diner after the women wordl soccer championship finals in Shanghai. No smoking in combined with an ashtray, made us laugh (I have a picture at home)!

This is pretty common in Japan, where many restaurants, train platforms and public areas have designated hours for non-smoking periods. (usually morning or evening commute times)
