On a different note, I would say the reaction of some netizens shows a classic example of self-importance. It seems the British media, and those from most of the rest of the world, haven't picked up the story. Yet many locals, including the cited blogger, feel it must be a way to make China lose face. Locally, we hear oodles about how the Western media misperceives China. How about how Chinese mispercieve the West and the Western media?

Personally, I like the headline. It highlights the irony of the situation and it isn't untrue. And most people who are really following the problem will know that it takes more then nine days to develop a kidney stone. Moreover, the use of the word "diagnose" doesn't rule out the long-term presence of a stone. It would be questionable if it said "X drinks Chinese milk, develops kidney stone nine days later" which would suggest that the second event was related to the first.

The headline is a little drudgey (like the Drudge Report), but it works. Unless you want to focus on the online discussion element (which isn't very interesting), the current headline is a good way to be provocative and give legs to the story.

He must be either a months-old baby girl or an adult who drank a glass of pure melamine or somebody like you who lives on putting worms in soup to bully restaurant owners. @ Buck Rogerz Under normal circumstances such as bad diet, it can take a while for kidney stones to form, but rapid stone formation could be the body's reaction to the presence of melamine or a by-product of the body's attempt to metabolize melamine. So rapid kidney stone formation is entirely possible and China is suffering another loss of face, as if China had any face to begin with.

The headline implies causality. That is definitely misleading as there is zero chance that he developed a kidney stone within 9 days. But the insinuation is controversial which is why it gets people's attention.
