In the past year, local techno strongmen Void have proven to be anything but. They've consistently rocked venues like LoGo and The Shelter every month, bringing one techno legend after another (see: Robert Hood, Traxx, etc). So it's only fitting that they celebrate their first birthday with not one, but TWO notable techno artists.
First up is one of the most innovative techno artists of all time, Edinburgh's Neil Landstrumm. Since releasing the ground-breaking "Brown by August" LP on Peacefrog records in 1995, he has continually pushed the boundaries of the genre, via three full-length albums on the seminal imprint Tresor Records from Berlin. Known for his love of "bleeps and bass", in the last couple of years Landstrumm has pushed his sound even further to bridge the gap between dubstep and techno with the release of "Restaurant of Assassins" on Planet Mu. He has another LP due for the release on the same label in the coming months.
Pacou is a household name on the global underground techno scene, and, like Landstrumm, rose to prominence with a series of three successful album releases on Tresor Records, back in the days when minimal techno was not the trendy buzzword it is today. Today Pacou continues to be active in the Berlin scene, establishing his own label, Cache Records, in 2005, and is one of the most solid and reliable techno DJs around.
Saturday October 11th: Neil Landstrumm and Pacou play The Shelter, located at 5 Yongfu Lu near Fuxing Xi Lu (永福路5号,近复兴西路) at 10 PM. Shanghai_Ultra, Nat Alexander, and Ben Huang open.
