I was in a Guangzhou hotel room watching the news when this story broke. It was shown several times. My wife was shopping at the time and I could only visually understand the content as my Chinese is atrocious, at best. I think that there is little doubt as to the authenticity.

yep it's me again, asking journalists to check facts - the nerve! By the way, yes, it does seem true, I have seen it from other sources since, and they are photos. Why don't you go and stalk your own ass, vladivostock?
