  • Shanghai's Dongtan project on Chongming island was slated to become a sustainable eco-city home to 500,000 people by 2010 but a recent visit by The Sunday Telegraph has revealed that the groundbreaking plans are "nothing but a pipe dream". Local farmers on fields within the projected building site remain blissfully unaware that the project would ever take place.
  • Lewis Hamilton's dazzling win in Shanghai on Sunday may help him secure the championship title, if he stays out of trouble, that is.
  • 84 year old film director Xie Jin died in his hotel room in Shangyu, Zhejiang province, possibly of a heart attack. His funeral will be held Oct 26 in Shanghai. Memorials and candlelight vigils have been held across China and the Shanghai Film Group Corporation is preparing a retrospective of his films.
  • The death sentence handed to Yang Jia, the Beijing man who killed six Shanghai cops in Zhabei district has been upheld by the municipal high court. His request for a second psychiatric assessment was thrown out the window.
