For Wu Liping, mother of an 18 year old Chinese student raped and murdered in Sydney, 2008 has been a year of unfathomable tragedy. Wu flew to Sydney earlier this week to identify the body of her only child who was raped three times before falling off the balcony in a Sydney apartment. The alleged rapist Brendan David Dennison is currently under arrest facing 21 charges.
Earlier this year Mrs Wu lost her home and the small supermarket she ran in Jiangyou during the Sichuan quake. Reports show her visiting the apartment from which her daughter fell.
The student was allegedly raped 3 times and forced to perform indecent acts with her 19 year old Korean boyfriend who is in critical with spinal injuries having fallen from the same balcony. The boyfriend was also raped by Dennison during the hour long ordeal.
This story is being covered by all the major news outlets in Australia. More information on this can be found here, here, here, here and here. Our heart goes out to the Wu family.

It hurts the feelings of the Chinese people that so many "successful parents", with utter disregard to Chinese tradition, casually toss their kids off to foreign countries to "study" without adult supervision and constant parental attention.
Ermmm... could you possibly be MORE besides the issue ?!
Well, tradition aside, I don't see the fault in sending your 18 year old daughter or 19 year old son to study abroad. Parental supervision or not, no ones prepared to encounter an attack like this.
Let's just hope this sicko is caught.
The problem is that the Chinese kids are so sheltered and coddled compared to their western counterparts of the same age.
I would think most kids sent to study abroad are somewhat sheltered just because many of them come from families who are somewhat well off and have had the means to keep them sheltered.
It's just hard to believe that the chances of this happening would be less likely to happen to a 18 year old girl from the U.K. or U.S.
This guy was out for blood and he found it.
She shud have kept her daughter in China than sending her off to an Aus school that overcharges.
Problem is Chinese universities are pretty terrible and instruments of state mind-control, which is fairly synonymous with education in much of Asia. Still, this is a very sad story and her parents must be devastated.

No blame should be placed on China, Australia, the mother, or her daughter for what happened. For those who have suggested otherwise? You should be ashamed.
The only person to blame is the monster that committed the act in the first place- and every single place in the entire world has these kinds of people.
Strange, nanheyangrouchuan hasn't commented on how the daughter deserved it because she was a barbarous Chinese. Well, yet anyway.
Wow. How unbelievably horrible. My heart goes out to both families.
