DJ Shadow at Richy

DST_3950.jpgSo one of the world's best DJ's came to China this weekend and where did he choose to play... Richy, one of the worst places on earth unless you happen to be a gangster, a 15 year old Shanghainese girl, a strange man that likes rubbing people's legs while they dance (this happened to us the last time we went there) or an Edison Chen wannabe. As for the show Shadow played an amazing set (the best we've ever heard him play... he dropped Organ Donor about 5 minutes into his set) but the crowd was just confused. Hipsters and Puxi trendies clashed with Chivas and green tea drinking dice players for space in ridiculously over crowded club. Richy completely over sold the tickets to a dangerous level and the bouncers were really aggressive in dealing with everything from taking photos to drawing on the posters outside the club.

We guess some of the smaller clubs can't afford the high price tag of Shadow but this would have been so much better somewhere else. Most people we spoke to lasted about an hour in the club before running off somewhere else less hectic.

Umm...DJs don't choose where they play. Promoters do.

Fantastic set, and I had such a good time that I didn't care if we were at Richy or Dicky.

Does anyone know the name of the Bloc Party track he played?

Yeah, DJs are not the ones choosing..... wth. And i never even heard of that club ! As for the "gangsters, guys rubbing legs, shanghainese girls and edison chan wannabes".... really, doesn't that apply to 95% of the clubs in this city ?!?

exactly, were you expecting an earthy bohemian type environment with "dank" weed and "kind" beers? the place is called f'in RICHY and it's in CHINA!

IT WAS HORRIBLE!!! with people pushing and poking you out of the way, the rude bouncers, drinks taking forever, pucking people.

HAVE THESE CLUBS NOT HEARD OF CROWD CONTROL!!! Too many people were let in noone was counting.
SERIOUSLY IT WAS BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADDDD!!!!
I WENT TO HEAR A GOOD SET OF MUSIC BUT ENDED UP WITH AN UNINTENTIONAL BODY MASSAGE and not the kind i like. This event was worse then taking the subway during rush hour.I didnt enjoy it at all, music was good but no room to dance.

WORST EVER EVENT I HAVE EVER ATTENDED!!!!

to sirsurly whats your "it's in CHINA" supposed to mean? There are lots of good clubs in Shanghai and around china

The same weekend I went to Goldie@Bonbon, Above And Beyond@GPlus.

No attitude from the bouncers at either place, drinks service at bonbon was quick, and the dancefloors were crowded but you could still dance.

China has some good clubs, there's nothing wrong with naming and shaming the bad ones.
