Highly controversial (and tit-tilating) art works from 53 year old Beijing-born painter Hu Ming (呼鸣). Hu's parents were military doctors who had always hoped their daughter would some day become a great surgeon. During her days in high school when the Cultural Revolution was in full swing, Hu's time was all spent either drawing the portrait of Chairman Mao (after her teacher found out she loved painting) or studying the Little Red Book. Finding it all very boring, Hu begged her parents to let her join the army. They relented, and at age 15, Hu joined the People's Liberation Army, where she would serve another 20 years in various roles as a hospital broadcaster/announcer, a librarian, a projectionist, recreational club director, cultural secretary and nurse. Week Around the Ists

Damn, got to stop the nose bleeding.
where do I enlist?!?
And I've been chasing these skinny, weak chicks? Give me a PLA girl!
I have yet to meet a local woman with that large of a posterior, but I sure would love to!
Great, thanks for the porn. Like I haven't seen enough "art" featuring over sexualized women in Chinese military uniforms already!
Maybe someday we can see a woman as something other than a beauty/sex object in Chinese art. The laowais who read this don't need any more reasons to think of Chinese women only in this way.
The universal reaction from males will be : "A chinese chick with an ass like that? I don't think so."
asss I said before we LOVE "KISS ASS" art for the westerners sooo cool and soo "contemporary" I can tell u this.. Chinese Kids born in 1978-and beyond..... think this art is SHI)(*_) these artist paint for westerners u can tell aiyooo ...funny :) mAO suits and peasants who destroyed the upper mid class with these stupid "doctors" with a "mao star" hats gotttaaa gooooo... they are soo funnyyyy :)
God bless the PLA.......
Here is Mabel Lee on the art of Hu Ming. It has a background and strong feminist identity.
Read it
stats show height, weight, tit cups are increasing since 20 years. when all said by all our posters about all chinese paintings which are about northern chinese not chick shanghainese, i'd tell you ms. hu ming is now an australian by nationalilty.
Actually even though they complain/joke about it most foreigners enjoy the small asses I think. If we really wanted asses like these we would live in Nigeria.
I've seen some Chinese women with big posteriors. I think it's the changing diet.
The quality of the booty is key. If it is muscle, HOORAY! If just two big dumplings, get it out of here.
Andy Best-
This is pseudo-feminism. The descriptions of Hu Ming's works don't address the real issue.
The problem has always been relegating women to a sexual role. Whatever they are doing, they must be beautiful while doing it. These women are expressing themselves by putting on a show for the male (or lesbian) gaze. They still aren't consumers, or active, but remain coy, passive objects to be consumed.
As you can see, Hu's art has inspired a discussion of how Chinese womens' asses aren't what Western males wish they were. Hu isn't doing any women any favors.
By the way, I'd say 99.9% of the foreign-Chinese couples I see are foreign male, Chinese woman. And always the woman is younger and significantly more attractive than the male. Maybe y'all should stop complaining about their butts, and be happy they're willing to go out with your fat wrinkly selves.
"By the way, I'd say 99.9% of the foreign-Chinese couples I see are foreign male, Chinese woman."
Actually, there are reasons for this. First of all, statistics I have seen before (sorry about not being able to show a source) show that there are far far far more single white males living in East Asia than single white females. But you are right. The loser male-bombshell combos are quite frequent.
Everyone knows that by and large chinese women have asses (arses) like 12 year old boys.
Apologies to the wife.
Upon looking at several of these images again, I don't see a problem. Isn't one role of art to turn conventions on their head? By juxtaposing the round asses and bountiful breasts of these camrades with what is supposed to be a relatively gender-neutral environment, the painter is causing just the type of stir that I would imagine she wishes to create.
And actually, I must say that I have never seen anything similar, so whether I think these are masterpieces or not, I can feel enriched knowing that I indeed have seen something out of the ordinary.
And, at the end of the day, if anyone thinks that this is just smut for consumption by foreign audiences, I have one sentence: Flip the switch and lighten up, Sparky!
modern chinese art is all about getting your attention and then selling it to you. they are very talented, and i give them credit for their ambition and their boldness, but it would refreshing to see some contemporary art in china that wasn't calculated to make me gasp.
