Coming up this weekend - Shanghaiist's picks for winter party animals. And let's hear no more excuses about cold weather. Unless you insist on sitting in the beer garden, most pubs and clubs are pretty warm inside. So without further ado, find our recommendations after the jump...
Friday
One for the Pudongers. The Wall is hosting their Red Party tonight, which means special gifts for ladies turning up dressed in red. DJ Borolo spins Electrohouse and Trance (but claims its Techno), and, where else in town can you get hammered in a bar without a sticky floor for just 50rmb all you can drink? Good god, this place must be hemoraging cash, help them drain their alocohol stocks before it joins Shanghai's long list of failed venues. The entrance is infront of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre in Lujiazui.
The Acid Pony crew (main man Clement pictured) bring their own brand of French musical horseplay to club Mao on 48 Yueyang Lu, Friday night. Playing Funky minimal, etc, etc. It's 60rmb to get in, including a drink, before 1 am. It's 100rmb after that, still with the drink. Girls, and convincing drag queens, get in free. Mao is a good club for those who like Bar Rogue but think the Bund is too far away, so perhaps this is an ideal alternative on a cold weekend such as this.
Saturday
2pm sees the Shanghaiist Beer Saturday kicking off. The title is self-explanatory. Southern Barbarian is the venue, its at Area E, 2/F Ju'Roshine Life Arts Space 56 Maoming Nan Lu. If you think its hard to find, just wait till you try to get out after an afternoon of solid beer-downing.
Dubstep is the key flava. ND1, from the gambling haven of Macou, is probably more used to seeing spinning roulette wheels than turntables but he's being tipped by Shanghai's Subculture crew as a man to watch in coming years. Not only is Dubstep an up-and-coming new genre, but ND1 himself is one of the few local DJs embracing the ethos cutting-edge electronic music. He's at The Shelter, and its 40rmb on the door.
Worthy of mentions are Singapore's Rehab crew who will play indie-rock and other electro-type stuff at Anar, 129 Xingfu Lu (formerly Pirates), and the low cost (indeed free) boozing continues at Windows Scoreboard who are celebrating their 3rd anniversary. 3F, 681 Huai Hai Zhong Lu, is the location, and there they will make a mockery of the high beer prices elsewhere in Shanghai by offering free drinks from 9.30pm to 11.30pm.

In other words, this weekend sounds like a perfect opportunity to catch up on my reading.

The Subs show will be awesome. But I guess this post is for electro/DJ fans so that may not be an option. It may be one more reason to get that reading in.

I'm not a dance/DJ party guy but I must say that a lot of people I know are just as excited about the Bananas event as I am about the Subs show.
I'll stop at Kylie though. "I should be so lucky" is one of the infamous crimes against popular music. It's beyond me why she is taken seriously these days. Who's next, Rick f**king Astley? And who's going to mastermind a modern dance hit for Jason Donovan?
Ada, check your reading also... specifically, read again the article, note that it says "picks" which means that its not a comprehensive list of everything going on this weekend, rather, a "pick" of, well to be honest, not even what I think is best, just the first stuff I found really.
Also have a wee gander over the last paragraph, it does include the Scoreboard Anniversary party you mention, except I cunningly disguised it as "Windows THIRD Anniversary", maybe that threw you, sorry, lol. But, aye, check your reading eh? Heh heh, no offence, etc.
