SH mag to fold

From a source close to the proceedings: "Asia City Finance Director just made the official announcement: SH will cease publication with the December 19th issue. They're tired of subsidizing the Shanghai office's monthly loss, which is substantial, and in light of the global economy, they're stopping publication. ... They've got a few interested parties who they're in talks with, but nothing has been signed and mid-December is the deadline for that. Their plan for the future: A website. The same one they have now, perhaps not even run by anyone in Shanghai, but instead done by their Hong Kong office." The ellipsis you see in the text above replaced these thoughts from our source: "Cough, cough, bullshit, cough. It's not nearly the whole story, but it certainly provides them a convenient cover for exiting the market. Sales figures were way down well before any of the current economic crises. Cough, cough." Previously: You could be the next owner of SH Mag!

Damnitt, I always enjoy SH mag.

When he source says sales are down ... they mean ad sales right? The mag is free.

The food guy at SH is well respected and also Jake Newby was adding a lot to that mag and I found it to be the most interesting of the pat-rags lately.

How does this magazine fold and other expat mags *cough* CW *cough* survive?

Well, that's sad. I liked SH better than the other ones.

T: probably because it's more expensive to maintain the SH Mag..I also always enjoyed SH Mag, definitely the best magazine in Shanghai.
that's is just annoying

SH was painful to read, and usually pointless. No wonder no one wants to advertise with them. CW is hardly any better, just a bunch of rags fawning over celebrities and fashion-types, your typically mindless capitalist drivel. Boring as hell, good riddance.

@Stephan

Boring as hell? Painful to read? Aren't you editor for SL Magazine?!

SL magazine

What's with the .co.uk suffix? (And no content?)

I believe the appropriate American English response is "ooooh, burn." or perhaps "face!" depending on your age.

SL magazine should pay me and Swiss James to write for it - then it can be well ace! Also Kenneth can round up some Chinasmack-esque stuff and Yangrouchuan can be agent provocateur.

I do music. Dan can do golf. Moneyinabox can do DJs. Shop Girl fashion. Etc Etc.

Come on we're all here and are not averse to cash to write for a posh looking mag.

Andy - I'm not sure how much of a cash cow these expat magazines are.

I seem to remember reading a news story about one of those mags going bust recently....

(We would be proper skill though)

:) SL is London based. They have money I know it.

Also, I just wanted to say "well ace" after reading T's post about American expressions as opposed to your British one.

"Proper skill" will do too, I LOL'd when I read it.
