The Cultural Revolution involved plenty of overly nationalistic, idealistic and brainwashed students. In China, it is perfectly acceptable to accuse someone of doing something wrong in the name of China. In fact, the government wants you to tell them, because the more controlling a government is, the more extreme it needs to be to keep you afraid of the government, otherwise the masses of people would be impossible to keep under control. It is as if, it is a dog eat dog world in China... uh wait a minute!, it IS a dog eat dog world in China! With so many people to compete against, this is how you get ahead in China - use other people for your own benefit.

It hurts the feelings of the Chinese people to know that inevitably, forward thinking, progressive academicians will be forced to leave the motherland more and more in droves to pursue unfettered research or to teach in an enlightened environment. As you can see, "Cultural Revolution 2.0" mentality is alive and well here and will hold us back for the next 100 years.
