Saw this the other day too - we got in touch with Fudan to find out who was 2nd and 3rd - and after about 5 different phone numbers it turns out that China Daily and Ctrip.com are the next too most read foreign sources in Shanghai... We asked them where That's, Talk and City Weekend were on the list - and they'd never heard of them! Awesome survey, awesome SD article - that paper is going places!

Does it only take seven months? And do they really turn back to local news? I also wonder to what type of publications she is referring. If she is referring to entertainment-style city magazines or newspapers? And I think "culture shock" is a bit too simplistic of an explanation. Most foreigners I have met simply don't like the style of reporting in the Chinese papers. "Chinese culture" has less to do with it than Chinese propaganda. You simply get a wider range of viewpoints and news items from Internet sources as long as you get your news from more than one website.
